- Overview of Alchemy
The idea behind alchemy is simple. It is the creation of a new item from existing items. The common belief is that alchemy is limited to foraging for herbs and plants to make healing potions. Whereas alchemy can be used for much more.
- Example of alchemy 1
While scouting a new area, you come across a tree with moss growing on the side of it. Carefully you take a chunk of moss and place it in your backpack, then continuing along your path. After so long, it's now night time but the strive for adventure still burns in your soul! So you light a torch and continue on your way. A vicious group of goblins approaches you though and you're at a disadvantage at the size of their group. You hit the nearest goblin with your torch and light his clothing on fire in the process. With your great knowledge of alchemy, you take out the moss you gathered earlier and hurl it at the flame on the goblin which erupts violently, causing the goblin to take a massive amount of damage and the explosion catches another goblin on fire. This is called reaction alchemy. While not necessary creating a new item, it involves creating a reaction from different products. In this case, the different products were (fire) and (moss).
- Example of alchemy 2
After killing a caverat, you notice their teeth are quite acrid. They smell horribly of sewers. You inspect the corpse and remove their teeth. Taking out a bowl you crush them into a powder, adding water and a bit of poison ivy to the mixture you carefully pour the contents into a thin glass bottle. You successfully create a Bottle of Poisons. This can be thrown at an enemy only within melee range and doing so causes the enemy to become poisoned and deals 1*(player's atk) damage. This is called productive alchemy. You combine multiple components to produce a new component. In this case, the components were (water) (rat's teeth) and (poison ivy leaf). The result of this example was an offensive potion which causes damage. Other products can include:
- (Healing substances such as: a Healing Balm in which it grants a median healing effect between Food and Healing potions. i.e. Instead of a 1 HP per tick over 20 ticks from consuming Cheese or an immediate 50 HP from consuming a Small potion, the player can create a (insert name of new healing item) with nearby components from the world and heal himself for 10 HP per tick over 3 ticks)
- (Stimulating potions such as: a potion to increase Atk temporarily(used on an enemy or on the player)) -in real life, medicine has side effects. Be it drowsiness, fatigue, or vomiting. In game, potions like these will also have a side effect, giving them a useful purpose to apply them to enemies.
- (Degrading potions such as: a potion to decrease Atk temporarily(used on an enemy or on the player)) -in real life, medicine has side effects. Be it drowsiness, fatigue, or vomiting. In game, potions like these will also have a side effect, giving them a useful purpose to apply them to enemies.
- (Area of Effect potions such as: a potion that produces a smog around a certain area that decreases the chance to hit the player if thrown at an enemy)
- (Weapon enhancements such as: a poison that is applied to the tip of your blade, giving a chance to poison your opponent per swing)
- (Temporary adverse effects such as: a potion that places an enemy into a sleep state, allowing you to attack it freely or escape from it. Attacking causes a 25% chance to wake the monster from their sleep)
- (Additive components such as: an additive that is combined with a healing balm that has been already made. The new healing balm lasts longer. (For example; (insert name of new healing item as previously mentioned) will now heal 10 HP per tick over 4 ticks). Additive components will be raw and will not be acquired through combining components. They will be commonly found through foraging plants yet in adverse areas, causing you to travel awkward lengths to get to them for their added effects.)
